Can I connect multiple computers to a single line?
Yes, Microsoft Windows 98, ME include this feature (Internet Connection Sharing). It requires network cards in each machine and a single modem/phone line.
There are 3rd party software packages to also do this such as http://wingate.deerfield.com/ this software is commonly referred to as a proxy server. There are also hardware solutions as well http://www.webramp.com is one such device. One thing to remember is this is shared dialup speeds which are greatly reduced when sharing a single line connection.

Why do I only connect at xx speed?
Several factors can contribute to your connection speed. Some of which include your phone line and distance to us, modem brand and computer. Many modems sold today are winmodems, these less expensive modems perform based on your Computers CPU speed.
The easiest way to tell a winmodem apart from a standard modem is the phrase "FOR WINDOWS" or "REQUIRES XXX MHz CPU". V.90 is currently the 56K standard but not all V.90 modems perform the same. Currently CascadeAccess supports the V.90 standard.

Why does it take so long to log in?
Several factors can play a role in this problem. Line noise, modem type/brand and or your dialup settings. You may wish to look for the latest drivers and firmware for your modem to help resolve any issues caused by your modem. Most modem manufactures provide help pages and software downloads to resolve these types of issues.

Why do I get a username and password box after I just entered one and logged in?
A common mistake is for people to check the option 'log into network' in your dialup networking. What is really happening here is your machine gets a connection is attempting to connect to the network which simply isn't there. It looks like the login box is coming up twice when in reality the first box is your DUN (Dial Up Networking) settings and the second is being generated from the log into network. Is this is on a laptop of dual-use machine. Simply hit cancel and continue on your Dial up session.

Why do I get disconnected after xx minutes?
If you are idle for a period of time (no data being transmitted) you may be logged off due to this. Windows has a setting for this in the Modem properties (Control Panel, Modems > Properties, Connection tab)

Several other factors can attribute to this such as line noise or storms, call waiting (*70 can be used to disable this feature), etc.
If you are downloading a large file this can be quite annoying. There are software programs that allow you to resume your file download once you reconnect. GetRight is one such program.
